Since President Biden was able to permanently ban offshore oil and gas operations over most of the US coastline, surely President Trump could permanently ban offshore wind turbines over the same area. If nothing else, it would make a good negotiating tool with the Congress if it must act to overturn Biden's action.

This is a good idea, and it was suggested at the time Biden announced his decision. But there may be legal problems to that as well.

I would rather see Chris Wright, after he is confirmed as Secretary of Energy, go to Congress and ask for legislation overturning the ban, followed by legislation with a more comprehensive energy strategy.

BTW, did anyone else notice in the ASCE Smartbrief this morning that China and Vietnam have both instituted energy laws. Renewables play a part, but how much is unclear. It would be interesting if Ms. Montalbano or others of her organization could do a deep dive on these actions to see if they reflect the reality of physics or the platitudes of politics.

Interesting! I imagine, if either China or Vietnam's laws are actually relying on renewables, that they'd face the same problems as any other country trying to do that. Let me look into this.

Edit: I think Ed is probably spot-on that these laws wouldn't be passed unless they thought they could do it without compromising economic development.

I suspect they reflect the reality of continuing economic development.

Chris Wright might want to have the threat of an offshore wind ban in his pocket when he visits the Congress. I suspect his boss would be willing to provide it. "The Art of the Deal"

I agree with commenter Ed Reid below; our communists in the Xiden administration have further destroyed our country beyond recognition. Unbelievable.
